Probably no need: unless you have been getting frequent yeast infections, then it may be of some benefit. Candida/yeast tend to thrive in conditions that are hot and sweaty, so during the spandex craze of the 80s it was a little more common and that is probably when the "airing out" advice was given. Doesn't prevent other infections however. Taking probiotics can also help keep the yeast population down.
