Depends: they work by reducing inflammation in your airways. They are used with good results in asthma maintenance treatment.

For cough asthma: Inhaled cortico steroids or ICS generally work well as standard "controller" therapy for asthma, of which cough is the most important symptom. But controller medicine doesn't provide immediate "rescue"from cough, for which other bronchodilator medicine like albuterol is needed. But first, get the diagnosis confirmed with your doctor.

Diagnosis first!: Cough is a symptoms and like most symptoms they can be caused by many things and be part of many different conditions. Steriods can be very beneficial anti inflammatory effects but can also have significant side effects. You and your doctor working together can decide what treatment may be best for you & your condition & discuss the risks & benefits Hope you feel better soon!
