Hyperechoic: suggests solid while hypoechoic means cystic, or "hollow" so to speak, Heterogeneous is a normal mixture of both. The meaning needs to be discussed with your doctor as these are generic descriptions.

Thyroid US: Hyperechoic increased internal echoes, hypo is decreased. Heterogeneous means uniform. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

High & low: hyper is usually from cells and more white on ultrasound. Hypo is usually black and from fluid, such as water and cysts.
