Early pregnancy: The absence of a heartbeat at 7 weeks is not a good sign. A blood level of the pregnancy hormone HCG can help determine the viability of the pregnancy - especially if the HCG level at 48 hours is the same or lower. Once it is clear that the pregnancy is not viable there could be 2-14 days before any bleeding or cramping starts.
