A member asked:

What tests are available to determine the source of back pain if i am unable to have an mri?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Myelogram: There are multiple imaging studies that are used in the work up of back pain. Since you cannot have an MRI your options include pain xrays or a myelogram. A myelogram involves a lumbar puncture with the injection of constrast into the thecal sac followed by a CT. This study can be used to examine many of the structures that MRI is used to evaluate.
