See answer: This procedure is simple for you. You drink barium in a special liquid so that it coats your small bowel. The barium usually takes about 1 1/2 hours to pass through your small bowel (intestine). It can take awhile (sometimes over 3 hours) for the barium to move through your intestines so be prepared to be there awhile. During this time, multiple x-ray images will be taken.
