It varies: The fact that different operators give widely different advice tells me that there's little science here, and little possibility of major problems. You'll probably be told to remove the covering between 2 and 8 hours after, and have an ointment or lubricant recommended to control the oozing of serum from the needle sticks. Keep it clean and if possible leave it uncovered by bedclothes.
