A member asked:

Is it common to use coumadin or warfarin as part of fontan aftercare?

Yes: There is an increased risk of thrombus and embolism after fontan procedure. Almost everyone agrees now that some form of anticoagulation is best. There continues to be some controversy over what strategy is best. Both Aspirin and Coumadin (warfarin) are used. There is some evidence that both are equal in overall efficacy. Some people have more serious problems with clotting and Coumadin (warfarin) is best.
