Immunofixation electrophoresis: This procedure identifies which kinds of antibodies are present and in what relative quantities, after they have been separated by moving in a gel exposed to an electric field. The gel supports the proteins and allows movement, which the size and type of charge on the antibody determines its rate of travel.

When do you use immunofixation protein electrophoresis instead of regular serum protein electrophoresis ? Is it more informative ? What about serum immunoglobulins?
Slightly elevated beta fraction from serum protein electrophoresis. Beta 1.07 (high) (0.52-0.98) increased beta fraction, no monoclonal or polyclonal gammopathy seen. Immunofixation normal.
