Specializes in Breast Surgery

Options: Paget's can be treated with removal of the nipple-areola area (lumpectomy) followed by radiation or total mastectomy which includes the nipple. Chemotherapy is not usually needed. Hormonal therapy is used if the tumor is estrogen or Progesterone positive.

Surgery: First, mammogram and possibly MRI to determine whether there is more cancer in the breast. If not, then lumpectomy, which would remove the nipple & areola, followed by radiation, is one option. Mastectomy is another option, and reconstruction can be done at the same time. See a breast surgeon or surgical oncologist for a discussion of treatment options.
