Pituitary hormone: Prolactin is a hormone normally made by the pituitary gland during pregnancy and after delivery to cause breast milk production. Other causes for high prolactin include: pituitary tumors (usually benign), certain medications, narcotics. Mild elevations are sometimes seen related to the stress of blood drawing.
