TMJ-TMD: Temporo-mandibular disorder is the second most frequent cause of orofacial pain after dental pain. Earache or pain below the ear is a common symptom due to the close location to TMJ. Proper diagnosis is the key to successful treatment. See orofacial pain practitioner for a consultation and treatment options.

Ear pain : Musculoskeletal pain around the jaw can be painful anywhere around the ear. Sometimes this will radiate up into temple or down into neck. Treatment includes heat to area, soft diet, antiinflammatories, sometimes a muscle relaxant, and maybe a night guard for the teeth. Other structures in the area that can be tender would be the parotid gland or lymph nodes. See an otolaryngologist to assess.
