Nerve path: The trigeminal nerve has branches of the nerve that are responsible for transmitting painful stimuli from the upper and lower jaw. The nerve passes in front of the ear as it exits the base of skull and sends branches to those areas. The transmission of pain is following the nerve from its origin back to the brain.
