Until GERD treated: Sore Throat (Pharyngitis) due to acid reflux is not uncommon, but often missed. First u need to be put on meds (H2 Blockers, Proton Pump Inhibitors) to reduce acid production, while you make changes in your lifestyle to reduce reflux of acid into your esophagus - reduce caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, spicy-fatty foods, eating before lying down, weight. Short term can use meds to neutralize acid.

If progressive...: Exposure of the vocal cords to stomach acid& pepsin will result in inflammation of the vocal cords (as is also often seen with acid regurgitation). Acute laryngitis may result, but watch out for chronic hoarseness, throat clearing, airway spasms, bronchitis, an asthma-type presentation, even a higher risk of throat cancer. Initiate acid blockers to start healing & treat GERD manifestations.

Sore Throat: For as long as the reflux lasts and then it may take a couple of days for the acute inflammation to resolve.
