Need an exam: It is not possible to know what is causing this pain without examining you. Further history about the nature, severity, triggers of the pain will help as well as what seems to make it worse or better. Have this information ready when you go to your doctor.

See a doc.: It is hard to say what's going on without an exam and without knowing your history Unless this is clearly associated with an activity or exercise that can be changed or modified so pain stops, it is time to get checked since it has gone on so long. By new activity I am thinking of the old joke "It only hurts when I laugh." Even then, I would want to be checked, because laughing should not hurt.
