We don't really know: There is a lot of controversy among experts whether Vitamin D supplementation is really beneficial. In fact, the US Preventive Services Task Force very recently released new guidelines recommending against screening for Vitamin D deficiency because there is not enough good scientific evidence that taking Vitamin D is beneficial, except for prevention of falls in the elderly.
