Chronic ankle pain: Best approach is to find the cause of the chronic ankle pain and treat it at the root. Topical medications may prove to be beneficial and help avert systemic side effects. Feeling sleepy is a common side effect of Amitriptyline. Your doctor may suggest starting it at a lower dose such as 10 or 25 mg at bedtime and titrating upwards as indicated and as tolerated.
