A member asked:

Are you truly not contagious after 24 hours on antibiotics for strep or are you really just less contagious?

Strep pyogenes: Streptococci are highly contagious. They spread through airborne droplets when someone with infection coughs or sneezes, or through shared food or drinks. You can also pick up the bacteria from a doorknob or other surface and transfer them to your nose, mouth or eyes. Antibiotics will diminish the risk of transmission. No guarantees.

Probably Less: The rule is 48 hours on antibiotics and at least 24 hours without fever and kids are allowed back in school. This is probably not based on controlled studies but rather the gestalt of public health officials from the 50's and 60's.
