Cold urticaria-hives: Urticaria is an allergy-like condition that occurs when your body reacts as if to stop a foreign infection. When exposed to cold you break out. Other get it from sunlight, citrus, or a viral infection. It's a histamine problem, so OTCs like cetirazine or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can block the effect. The spontaneous marks are hives, the marks from scratching is called dermatographism.
