Tonsillectomy: It is not uncommon to spit up blood. after a tonsillectomy. Howver, if the bleeding is severe and not stopping, seek immediate help.

Contact surgeon: Only your surgeon can tell you when this is NOT an emergency. With most techniques used in the USA, bleeding after tonsillectomy is NOT okay. Notify a parent/guardian immediately and have him/her call your doctor's office for direction.
