GFR formula: GFR (glomerular filtration rate) is known by utilizing one of a few options of formulas for calculation. This can be done in the setting of knowing certain laboratory values, such as creatinine, and knowing the patient's body surface area. Urine volume can also be used in determinations. Talk with your nephrologist to determine which formula they use to calculate your GFR.

Creatinine : using a formula called MDRD which needs serum creatinine and other information like race age gender etc. MDRD GFR is accurate when studied against gold standard methods like iothalmate. Another method is a 24 hour urine collection but not needed in most cases.
