A member asked:

What are the tests for newborn respiratory distress?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Various: Normally newborn with respiratory distress will need tests to measure lung function such as blood gases, pulse oximetry and a chest x-ray. They also need tests to determine the presence of infection such as a white blood cell count (cbc), and blood culture. There are other tests that maybe used such as CRP which is blood protein that maybe elevated in the presence of infection.
