Weight: First, is he trying to lose weight? If not, many things could cause weight loss. Hyperthyroidism, inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's Disease or ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, diabetes, infections, etc. Don't forget medications or drug abuse. I would strongly encourage him to get a full physical to address thoroughly.

Much more: information is needed and is best obtained by a face to face meeting with a physician who can get a complete history, examine and order diagnostics if needed. That is the best avenue to follow if it is an important concern.
