Well,...: I can not tell you whether it is normal of not, but "it is what it is." Since you had the pains before the massage, it probably means the massage was unfortunately just not therapeutic. Neck sprains and muscle tension in the posterior cervical area can be hard to treat, and may take time. See the Doctor if you do not get well soon. Best wishes.
