A 33-year-old female asked:

how many calorie to consume to loose one pound a day?

There are 3,500: calories per pound. Since is more than most of us consume in a day - it would take physical activity as well as caloric restraint to lose at that kind of rate. By the way, that rate is too rapid for most people.

Calories & weight: It takes about 3500 calories surplus -- i.e. more than calories burned - to build one pound of flesh. Conversely you must burn 3500 calories over what you consume to lose one pound of flesh. Hard to do that in one day. However, if you consume only 1500 cal per day, and burn 2000 cal per day, in seven days you will have burned 7x500 cal more than you consumed and you will lose a pound of flesh.

What could cause the left side of my jaw to lock up after catching a cold a few days ago?

TMJ disorder: A locked jaw is usually due to a temporomandibular joint that is injured or displaced. This could happen when you are ill from clenching too much, or a wide yawn if you already have aproblem with the joint. Go see an ent. If severe a few days of a steroid will help, then you may need an occlusion splint made by a dentist.

Remember...: Remember why you started in the first place and how much better you felt while doing it. Also, schedule it as an appointment. Even if you don't want to do it, do 10 minutes. You can always find 10 minutes. Right?

Is it safe to take 5 metformin pills & 5 onglyza (saxagliptin) pills on 1 day and take a break for 5 days while fasting?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Richard Scofield
Diabetology 33 years experience
Absolutely not!: There is no rationale for taking metformin or Onglyza (saxagliptin) in that fashion and taking such large amounts all at once may lead to toxic side-effects.
Dr. William Harris
Family Medicine 33 years experience
The equivalent 5-day Onglyza treatment would be once-weekly Bydureon injections. You get all of the benefits of a daily pill in a weekly shot. There is no equivalent, weekly (more convenient) dosing form of metformin yet -- we're still stuck with the once-daily metformin so far...

Can multiple lipomas be treated safely w/ steroid injection. I have 50+ & don't want scars. I can live with most but many are large & uncomfortable.?

Not really: Steroid injections will not dissolve lipomas. If you have 50+ they may not be lipomas, some times subcutaneous neurofibromas look like lipomas, you should have biopsy of one lesion to establish diagnosis, these lesions run in families other alternative see a cosmatic surgeon, for possible removal like liposuction.

Liposuction can be used to address lipomas, but there is a much higher risk of recurrence than with a surgically removed lipoma.
