Fibroid surgery: Hi, yes she needs to fast, which it means no food or drink after for 10-12 hours prior to the surgery, please check with her doctor for further recommendations.

Surgery.....: Usually, before any surgery, the patient is instructed to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight on the night prior to surgery. Taking meds with small sips of water is permitted. If the patient is a diabetic, you need to find out what to do about the diabetic meds prior to surgery since it depends on what meds are involved and how well controlled the blood sugars are. Ask the patient's doctor
