I've had diarrhea for over 7 days. often the stool appears to be only thick mucus with light reddish/pink streaks. how do i know if that is blood?

Only option : As described, that would be the only reasonable thing it could be. Diarrhea and its inflammation/irritation can cause small blood / pink. If grossly bloody, need seen, usually in the ER.

COLITIS: You might have a serious medical condition called colitis. Colitis can be caused by many things, including autoimmune disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, or serious bacterial infections such as Clostridium difficile. You must see your doctor immediately, to discover the reason for your diarrhea, and start treatment right away. Your doctor will obtain a stool sample, and maybe a CT scan.
