Pharyngeal flora: Everybody has bacteria throughout their upper respiratory tracts. Very few of these have clinical significance, and very few that may need antibiotic therapy. Streptococcus pyogenes is treated to prevent the subsequent development of acute rheumatic fever. Do not know why or what you were given by your doctor, but you should definitely ask them.
