Parasites/ DNA: Leishmaniasis can be diagnosed when parasites or their dna are seen in a light microscope. For cutaneous leishmaniasis – tissue from a skin lesion is evaluated. For visceral leishmaniasis – bone marrow is examined. Serological testing can assist with diagnosis for visceral leishmaniasis.
