A member asked:

What does it mean when the doctor says you have inflammation of the bowels and what causes it to occur?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Inflammatory: condition of the intestines, contrasted with infectious condition, is usually Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Other inflammatory conditions are rare. Causes are unknown in most cases. Treatment consists of anti-inflammatory meds, sometimes even steroids, and avoiding certain foods. Ask for a referral to a GI specialist if your symptoms persist.
