Depends on age: Testing for these disorders involves a combination of questions to parents and teachers plus some direct psychological assessment of the child or adult. There are no established laboratory tests for making the diagnosis. Some of the questions are easy to misunderstand or overinterpret, so it it important to work with someone with experience in diagnosing autism.

Variety: There are a variety of tests, including rating scales such as the gilliam's, and tests such as the ados, to help in diagnosing aperger's disorder. However, the tests are properly used to help a trained professional make a determination. The tests do not, in and of themselves make the diagnosis. The tests need to be interpreted by a trained professional performing a more comprehensive evaluation.
