What's the best way to heal a cut between thumb and forefinger after stitches are removed?

Healing a cut: Sometimes, they use steristrips after sutures, sometimes I put desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) which has antibacterial and growth properties due to zinc, on it and cover with gauze ( not bandaids they keep moisture in and promote infection). If near a joint (which it is ) try not to move so ask/buy a small splint. If red, pus, pain it is infected and go back to doctor.
