A member asked:

39 weeks pregnant.i want to know if catheter will be inserted in both c-section and in vaginal birth?i want to avoid it due to my bladder inflammation

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Catheters in Birth: If you have a C-section you will have one to keep track of fluids and because you will not be able to get up until the anesthesia wears off. In a vaginal birth if you have an epidural you will have a catheter because you can't get up or feel when you need to go and a full bladder can prolong labor and interfere with some procedures. Otherwise you may have an in and out cath just prior to birth.
