What have you tried?: I usually start people off with natural treatments - prunes, warm water, increased fiber in diet, exercise, and if still no relief, add stool softener like docusate/colace. Taking a good probiotic (available at your pharmacy) may also help. If you are having "extreme pain" see your MD for a thorough history and exam. Chronic constipation is usually not serious, but it shouldn't hurt that much!

Treat constipation.: For a person as young as you are the treatment is related to the constipation. There can be a number of ways to treat this from using harsh laxatives although not recommended to using things like miralax (polyethylene glycol). or propylene glycol. It is my opinion that you need to see a GI doctor to make sure you have no underlying issues such a nerve plexus issue that may need treated. Bsst wishes.
