Depends on..: It is very unusual to get this type of test as a routine test. At least not recommended as a regular screening lab. It all depends on how elevated it is, her symptoms( weight loss, tiredness, for example) and other associated test results. Is it CA19.9?: We usually do not recommend any tumor markers in routine blood test because they are neither sensitive nor specific. CA19-9 is frequently elevated in pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancers, and etc. It can also be elevated in some benign conditions such as cholangitis or gallstones. Depending on its level, a CT scan and see GI doctor will be helpful. Did she have any symptoms?
