No: Fibromyalgia is not contagious. However some people do develop fibromyalgia after having a viral or bacterial illness. Physicians do not know why some people develop fibromyalgia and others do not after having infections. Fibromyalgia is also seen after physical or emotional trauma. There may also be a genetic component.

No : ? is fibromyalgia (FM) contagious. No evidence exists that FM is contagious. Female family members are known to have FM at rates greater than chance, but this is due to genetic relationships. When you evaluate these familial occurrences a benign form of Joint Hypermobility Syndrome is often common & sacroiliac joint subluxation is frequently observed; providing clues to the true cause of FM.
