Osgood/Schlatters: Usually for Osgood Schlatters one has to rest to improve the condition. That would mean no offending sports till pain is gone and then slowly resuming, and with stretching hamstrings, quads .Acutely Ice on the leg for 15 minutes several times a day and NSAIDS should work, but no sports. Follow with orthopedist.

Incorrect treatrment: Osgood-Schlatter's (OS) is not an inflammation. It is a stress fracture to growth cartilage and some injury to the tendon. Decreased traction on the tendon (no running or jumping) is the only effective treatment. Stretching the tight muscles in the area helps. If it hurts, there is too much traction and the OS will continue.
