Get an exam asap: Nothing good causes a total loss of vision in an eye, even if temporary. Amaurosis fugax is the medical term for this, which basically is a TIA or transient ischemic attack (i.e. stroke). Something can break off from the carotid artery or a heart valve and block blood flow to the eye. Other causes include pituitary apoplexy, optic neuritis, giant cell arteritis, etc. - all need evaluation.
