Myositis: is an inflammation of muscle resulting from local cause. A common cause of myositis is inflammation from a local anesthetic injection. The injury may be due to the needle itself or to the irritating qualities of the local anesthetic. Use moist heat 2-3 X per day and NSAID or Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain control.

Not really: you should not normally have pain in the site of the injection, but it happens. if it was hard to find the right spot to numb you after multiple attempt, the cheek muscles and soft tissue must have been irritated. This condition normally resolves by itself, you can take ibuprofen and rinse your mouth with some warm salt water. If the situation worsen ( rarely) you should call your dentist.
