A member asked:

If we need fluoride, then why aren't we supposed to swallow fluoride toothpaste?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Use as directed: We need shampoo but we don't swallow it. Fluoride, when used as directed, hardens tooth enamel and helps prevent costly cavities. Swallowing a small amount of fluoridated toothpaste will not in any way cause harm to adults. It can damage forming teeth in small children. From 2-7 use a smear (rice sized) of toothpaste, after 7 a pea-sized portion. Ask your Dentist for advice.
