A member asked:

Do psychologists test for adhd?

11 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Some do, also others: Psychologists, pediatricians, family docs, psychiatrists and others may be trained to test for adhd, but not all offer this testing. Testing usually involves interviews & checklists with child, parent(s) and teacher(s). Best to start by asking your pediatrician or family doc; if they don't do the testing themselves, they can refer you to the right qualified expert in your local area.

They can: Psychologists and educational psychologist both are trained in the kinds of testing typically used for diagnosing adhd. However, part of diagnosing mental disorders in general is still an art, so having someone with experience with a specific disorder such as adhd can be a reall advantage both for diagnosis and for getting the most useful information about next steps in terms of treatment.

Yes: So do psychiatrists, pediatricians, family doctors and other clinicians. They could all render adequate assessment provided they have acquired enough knowledge and experience in treating this disorder.
