Dr. Syed H. Sajid answered

Specializes in General Adult Psychiatry; Child & Adolescent Psychiatry ( 1 yr. Fellowship), sees all types of patients for Medication Management from ages 6-99yo

11yo should get Tx.: Adhd is usually diagnosed at age 7. So, it is important for her to seek treatment which may improve her functioning significantly in academics as well as socially and to decrease disruptive behaviors. Psychotherapy can definitely help adhd symptoms. Currently, medications alone have been found to be far more helpful than psychotherapy alone. Combination of medications and therapy is more helpful.

Can start there: Many kids struggle with a variety of social implications from ADHD & working with a psychologist can benefit most of them. It would be a place to start if you are troubled by the label or potential treatments. As you get past the evaluation you may find the psychologist both validated the problem and asks you to get her medical treatment, either through her doc or a psychiatrist.
