Your psychiatrist : will tell you the working diagnosis & the benefits vs. risks, or side effects of your meds if you make an appointment to discuss them. Usually they are used to treat Bipolar Disorder, with a history of manic episodes cycling with episodes of depression. It's important to know your dx. & to have therapy along with med. management. If you have BPD, each of your kids has a 20% chance of having it.
