baby spits up on and roots right away like nothing happened. what could be the cause of this? i burp him, hold him upright for 10 minutes or so

Reflex: Rooting is actually a newborn reflex. Yes, babies root when they are hungry but they also root when something or someone strokes their cheek. As long as baby is growing well and not fussy due to all the spitting up, random rooting is just fine.
