i have been sneezing and coughing and head stopped up and now im coughing up mucus with some blood in it. can a cold cause this?

Or....: secondary infection on top of previous one. cannot say in your particular case, but generally, mild viral infections have mild symptoms. HOwever, they frequently cause irritation, breaks in the mucous linings, and predispose to have whatever germs that are there to grow, possibly invade, and cause a second (bacterial) infection that is helped by antibiotics.
