Aging and genes : varicose veins can form when a vessel in your leg looses the valve ability. Vericose veins seem to run in the family. After pregnancy they appear due to changes. It can be treated by surgery for cosmetics but is not usually harmful in itself.

Varicose veins.: Pregnancy is one of the top causes of varicose veins due to stretching of the venous valves resulting in venous insufficiency and leading to varicose veins. See a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation including a venous duplex ultrasound.
