Not necessarily: An unusual pimple isn't necessarily a reason for medical evaluation. If you have a lesion that is getting larger, red, hot, has purulent drainage, tenderness, red streaking, swelling in surrounding area with swelling of lymph nodes - those would be signs of infection and that would warrant medical evaluation. Take care.

Depends on: location, severity, and size. Your description sounds like large serious infection. Also, if it is located on or near your nose, infection can spread to brain. It is always best to seek medical opinion if you have any concerns.

"pimple": Generally, pimples will abate on their own with topical creams-sometimes placing a warm cloth on the area improves blood flow and healing. Rarely, they may turn into a carbuncle, furuncle or abscess that requires antibiotics or drainage. See your doctor if you have fever, increasing pain or it the lesion does not regress.
