Heat helps pain: Generally, for chronic pain, heat is much more helpful than ice.

Since this is chroni: Since this is chronic, heat will help much better. Icing a joint for acute injury is standard, because it quiets down the inflammatory response and prevents it from escalating. But for arthritis, the warmth is better and increases perceived and actual mobility!
