Start slowly: Retin a (tretinoin) is an excellent medication for acne of all stages. However, it is almost universally drying and irritating when someone is getting started. Go very slowly and only use a "pea-size" amount to the facial skin. It should be applied at bedtime. Clindamycin is usually applied at a separate time (am) after cleansing the face. Clindamycin is more tolerable. See a dermatologist.
