A member asked:

I had vit d deficiency a month ago so was taking 3000 iu daily. i also got sun exposure that time. if i'm pregnant this month can this dose be toxic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Hi. No, under no circumstance could that dose of vitamin D be toxic. Vitamin D toxicity is a myth unless you're taking the hormonally active form of vitamin D (calcitriol, a.k.a. 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D). Calcitriol production in the body is very tightly regulated (except in a few disease states), and you can load up on vitamin D but your body will NOT overproduce the active form, calcitriol.
